Class-based computer network assessment policing uses class maps and policy maps. A class map identifies the traffic to be policed (or the policer can be applied to class-default to police everything). The policy map then details the CIR, Bc, and other policing parameters, including the conform and exceed actions to be taken
Class-based policing was introduced in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(5)T. Enhancements were made in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(2)T. Class-based policing is supported in the CEF path and in the fast- and process-switching paths. The policer can be specified at the interface, subinterface, or even ATM/Frame Relay PVC levels. Class-based policing works on both unicast and multicast computer network assessment packets
