Network Auditing

When doing network audit, IT team often use specialized software network scanners and analyzers that reveal different data from the network, and the main utility in this toolbox is network inventory software. On this web page we introduce Asset Tracker for Networks, a network inventory software that reveals all possible information about the network workstations, servers, printers, switches, etc. and displays this information to the network professional in a human-readable form.

When auditing the network, Asset Trackers inspects the network in the IP address range provided by the network administrator. When checking a certain IP address to belong to a network item, the application identifies the item type (Windows workstation; other computer; network equipment) and uses certain procedures to get the item details according to the item type. For network equipment such as switches and network printers, the application uses SNMP protocol to get information about the device.

For Windows workstations and servers, Asset Tracker uses a wide range of detection methods and finally gets virtually any information one can imagine, starting from CPU model and speed and finishing with memory units and applications license keys. All this data is recorded in a centralized database which resides either on the local hard disk of the user's computer, or on a shared server folder so it can be reviewed by collegues at any time - depending on which configuration the network administrator selected when installing the program.

After the network auditing data is stored in the DB, the network professional can view the information of any network workstation, server or device immediatelly after the network inventory will be finished, or at any time later.
