Network Audit SoftwareNetwork audit software is the software type used to audit the network and detect all it's functions, bottlenecks, security problems and so on. One cannot imagine a software product that implements all the required jobs in one software package - or, to be more exact, that does them all with a good quality. Normally, an IT professional has a toolbox containing different software products, each product doing it's own job. When scanning the network for a certain factor, the network professional selects the right tool from his toolbox and uses it to get the required information. Because of the complexity of the task, the network audit software applications should be as much automated as possible. Let us suppose that an application that inspects all computers in the network requires a client software to be installed to each computer. This can be more or less acceptable in the case of a small-sized network containing not more than 25-50 workstations (and even in this case it will take the IT guy a full busniess day or even more to install the client software to all computers), but abolutelly unacceptable if the LAN contains hundreds or even thousands computers. Unattented installation option sometimes solves theproblem, but should be used only when there is no other way to complete the job. Ideally, an application of this kind should execute on the network administrator's workstation (or a dedicated workstation to not to slow down the admin's one) and work automatically without disturbing the network administrator until the job will be completed. We can recommend you a software of this kind: Asset Tracker for Networks inspects the company's network and inventories all found servers, workstations and devices. It does not need any manual installation on the target computers and works automatically. Next article: Network Audit Tools |
