Network Audit Checklist

What data should be placed to the network audit checklist? How that checklist should be assembled?

Besides the other information, a network audit checklist should consist of detailed information about the servers, workstations and network devices connected to the company network being audited. In most cases it is very hard to collect this inventory data "by hands" and absolutely impossible to keep it in the up-to-date condition permanently if you support a network containing at least 50 computers.

In other words, you should have a software that will automatically scan your network for workstations, servers and devices connected and retrieve all possible details about each individual item found. For Windows PC's, it should be CPU, motherboard, memory and HDD information, the list of the applications installed and separatelly - workstation or server security details, like antivirus program name and version or firewall and Windows Update settings.

For network equipment, this tool should detect the name, model and type of the equipment. Additionally, it should record the device settings - at least those settings that can be accessed sing the SNMP protocol and, so, could be revealed automatically. This could be a network fax type, or network switch firmware version, or network storage size - well, there are different types of equipment connected to a company network and many properties of these devices might be useful to add them into the network audit checklist.

Please check the Asset Tracker for Networks application and find out how does this software help you to fill the network audit checklist for your company.
