IT infrastructure audit and computer inventory of the company are the important part of the company's IT team operations. When launched, Asset Tracker for Networks suggests the user to scan the local area network and then begins inventorying computers and devices connected to the LAN. This program detects all possible information about each individual workstation, including hardware information such as processor, memory and HDD characteristics, software information such as operating system details or the list of programs installed, and peripheral computer equipment such as display adapters or local printers. The program can also inventory non-computer networked devices like switches or network printers inventorying them thru the SNMP protocol.

After the IT auditing process above is completed, the software stores collected information (over a megabyte per PC) in a database stored on a local HDD or in a shared server folder helping the network administrator secure the data or share it between collegues if necessary. This inventory database can be viewed at any time so the network administrator can access the characteristics of each individual PC without having to re-scan it again.

The IT auditing database mentioned above also helps the network administrator to build complicated reports showing, for example, how many workstations in the organization have this or that program installed. The network administrator can generate the reports using over ten built-in report templates, and even build their own by using the Report Builder program included into the program installation. The network administrator c even export the inventory data to various data storages, e.g. ODBC data sources or a HTML files.
