Computer Asset ManagementWhat is computer asset management? What operations and routines it consists of? The general part of this process is the PC's inventory routine. During this process the network administrator or IT professional checks each computer in the company for the parts it consists of, hardware and software details, the list of programs installed (yes, programs should also be included since the software licenses the company has is also an asset and should also be recorded) and so on. Obviously, this routine should be automated since it is very hard to detect detailes on software and hardware settings for a network contaning even 50-70 PC's. And what if the company owns 1000? A program of this kind automatically processes the network and scans all computers and devices found for configuration. For each PC, the program writes down processor name, model and frequency, memory size installed, HDD information. If this desktop was assembled by a big brand, the software also reveals computer serial number that will be used if the PC will get out of order and the network administrator will have to contact the manufacturer for warranty services. It also lists all programs installed on each PC and compares the number of programs to the number of licenses the company has (do you remember the issue with the licenses mentioned above?) and virtually all other settings of a computer. After that, the software records all collected details in a centralized database so it could later be read by the network administrator. Please check the Asset Tracker for Networks product, this is exactly the software we mentioned above. Asset Tracker will help you in the computer asset management routines.
