Network audit is a serious task that contains multiple components. For example an important part is the network security audit that scans the network and reveals all security problems: unsafelly open TCP ports, computers with outdated antivirus software and so on. In this article we will focus on a different part of network auditing - IT inventory.
Our main product, Asset Tracker for Networks, will audit net in your company and provide the network administrator with the comprehensive view of computers and devices configuration. When started, Asset Tracker suggests to specify domains or workgroups or individual PC's in the computer list or specify IP address range to audit. After that, having the list of objects to inventory, Asset Trackers starts the inventory process.
If this or that component (PC or IP address) appears to be available thru the network, Asset Trackers attempts to detect the nature of that component (Windows PC, network equipment, Unix box, etc.) and then audit net by retrieving detailed information from it. The detection process is multithreaded - this means that Asset Tracker detects more than one entity at one time - and fully automated, i.e. does not require any assistance from the network administrator when working. The audit process shows the full detection log on the screen so you can see the inventory process status of each individual item at any time. Network audit can also be schedulled, so you can can start it on the regular basis unattendedly and always have the most actual audit information.
